Block B - Slot 6
A tour of the new ai module family for Backdrop CMS, now in backdrop-contrib. The core ai module gives Backdrop one API for chat, embeddings, moderation and
structured decisions. Separate provider modules connect it to OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, AWS Bedrock, Ollama and others, so a site can switch models
without rewriting code. On top of that core sit modules for:
- semantic search and chatbots that answer from your own content (ai_search, with Milvus, pgvector or MariaDB vectors)
- related-content suggestions
- automatic field filling and image alt text
- SEO and metatag advice
- content audits that flag stale or duplicate pages
- agents that act on the site only after a person approves each action
We'll show the modules working on a live site, explain how guardrails and usage tracking keep costs and risk under control, and close with how to add a
provider or build on the APIs in your own module.
