Block E - Slot 13
The Gin admin theme has been ported (is being ported) to Backdrop from modern Drupal, and I'm curious if people have any thoughts about the future. This is an open conversation for people who love Gin, don't like Gin, or don't even know about Gin.
At DrupalCon Barcelona recently, Sascha Eggenberger (creator and maintainer of Gin) gave a quick presentation called "Gin Admin Theme - Road to stable". The first part of that presentation would be great basis for conversation on this end as well (Backdrop's version of Gin got a nice shout-out!), with the caveat that Backdrop's version does not support everything mentioned in this video, such as multiple types of navigation as modern Drupal's does -- just the horizontal top admin nav.
Conversation starters:
- Do you agree with the research described by Sascha Eggenberger, indicating many people feel "Drupal [Backdrop] looks really outdated."?
- Do you like the minimal, modern UI that Gin provides?
- Would you be interested in Gin being provided in Backdrop out of the box? What would need to happen for that to occur? (Note: It will be the default theme in Drupal CMS in case that makes you more or less likely to support the concept).
- Is there anything you would like to see in an admin theme that Gin doesn't provide?
- People may also be interested in discussing what it might take to get movement towards a new core front end theme as well.
